This project centres around the benefits of teaching philosophy to Junior Certificate students, and takes a playful approach to what can seem like an incredibly dense subject. Teaching philosophy to children has been proven to increase empathy, confidence, enthusiasm for learning and performance in other areas of study. This publication introduces philosophy to Junior Cycle students using playful, dynamic typography, hand-written quotations and relevant, relatable philosophical dilemmas. To emphasise the dialectical nature of philosophy, each section of the book begins with a layered series of quotes from key philosophers which overlap each other, forming a conversation which the reader is encouraged to join in on. The book is colour coded into 4 distinct areas, exploring knowledge, morality, politics and art through a philosophical lens.
Overall, this publication encourages active learning and allows students to take ownerships of their ideas.
In addition to the colour scheme, each of the four chapters makes us of graphic imagery to emphasise the subject matter. The above chapter concerns the Philosophy of Art, and features a human iris, symbolising the viewer's gaze. Meanwhile, neurons weave across the below spreads about the Philosophy of Knowledge. Woven fabric, leave venation, and compass points are also features throughout the publication.
